Fly above fake news - I just read an article shared by 14 friends from @washingtonpost written by @cleverwootson with the title, NRA host taunts Parkland teens: “No one would know your names” if classmates were still alive.
Notice where the the writer used quotation marks… @colionnoir did not speak that phrase the way it was portrayed to 2.13 billion @facebook users by a daily news publication.
In an @nratv produced video, Noir says, “I wish a hero like Blaine would’ve been at Marjory Douglas High School last month because your classmates would still be alive and no one would know your names. Because the media would’ve completely and utterly ignored your story the way they ignored his.” I am not saying that I agree with the production of their video or with Noir’s projection, but I DO NOT agree with the seductive nature of news headlines designed to manipulate young minds with the help of targeted ad space on social platforms. It is our responsibility, more than ever, to question and to investigate the information we are impaled by. News should be factual and should leave us to make our own decisions without bias. The media is targeting our differences to wedge us apart, and they’re making money doing it. We, as a people, need to be smarter. We are all influencers and everything we share on our feeds is seen by our audiences. It is easy to scroll through paid ads with frustrating headlines and hatefully share them but I beg you to stop letting the media talk for you. Share YOUR thoughts, YOUR beliefs, no matter what they may be and invite conversation. It’s real, it’s vulnerable and it’s educational. Let’s be smarter than them. Let’s be the change. Let’s ACTUALLY spread love, not hate.
